FROM THE PRINCIPAL – World Youth Day 2023

August 26, 2022

World Youth Day’s (WYD) return next year is a special gathering and experience for young people from all over the world, with the Pope, for nearly a week. It has been four years now since the last WYD and next year its return will be in Lisbon, Portugal, from 1-6 August.

Lisbon (Lisboa), the 2023 host city is home to the birthplace of the St Anthony of Padua and a truly beautiful European city. With much to see and experience (including Fatima) I believe it’s a wonderful location for this international pilgrimage and celebration, largely for the 18 to 30 year olds.

The event is an expression of the universal Church and a great moment of evangelisation for youth around the world. It aims to provide all participants with a universal Church experience, fostering a personal encounter with Jesus Christ. WYD also seeks to promote peace, unity and fraternity among peoples and nations around the world and is a new stimulus to the faith, hope and charity of the entire host country community.

More will be heard about WYD in the months ahead as preparations emerge from sectors across Australia.
