R U OK? Day

September 9, 2022

On Thursday 8 September, the school celebrated R U OK? Day, an event planned and executed by the Wellbeing Committee under the guidance of Mrs Simone Firns. Resources were distributed on how to start conversations to check in with friends or form new connections, and a plethora of activities took place at recess and lunch, including biscuit decorating, games like handball and Jenga, Just Dance and a Kahoot competition. It was immeasurably fulfilling and heartwarming to see our team’s hard work come to fruition as students of all years milled around enjoying the festivities.

Although fun games and competitions certainly contribute to the vital task of building a stronger sense of community for Chisholm’s student body, the more serious message of R U OK? Day cannot be ignored. The Wellbeing Committee is dedicated to promoting awareness and support regarding mental health, and creating a safe and open environment within our school for students to communicate about their own welfare. The R U OK? ethos, “a conversation can change a life”, is an apt reminder of the importance of maintaining support systems in which we can rely on and uplift one another in order to grow and thrive, as students and as people.

Ultimately, the day was a resounding success, and as Wellbeing Committee leaders, we couldn’t be prouder of our wonderful Committee and of the school as a whole.
