Absent from the Table – Research Project

August 1, 2024

The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference is conducting the “Absent from the Table” Research Project to investigate why some Catholics do not attend weekly Sunday Mass, which is defined as attending three or more times a month, including Saturday Vigils. The project aims to provide insights into the religious practices and beliefs of contemporary Australian Catholics, enabling parishes, movements and school communities to respond to participation trends and understand the factors behind non-engagement.

The bishops are seeking broad participation, particularly through Catholic Education for Catholics aged 18 years or older, to gather data from those who do not regularly attend Mass. The study, approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee at the Christian Research Association, will conclude on 20 August 2024.

The survey can be accessed at the link Absent from the Table Survey.
