On Wednesday 23 September, our Senior Boys’ Soccer team played the Grand Final of the ACC Divisional Championship against Lake Joondalup Baptist College at Sam Kerr Football Centre.
This was to be a re-match between the top two teams of the Division 1 North group where Chisholm came out on top 2-1 in the group stages. With this result in mind, our boys went into the Grand Final with a firm belief that they could continue their unbeaten run and finish with a championship medal.
Chisholm started a little nervously and Lake Joondalup had the first real chances to get an early goal. Austin produced two fine saves as goalkeeper to prevent Joondalup from taking the lead and kept the score at 0-0.
After this initial scare, Chisholm finally got a foothold in the game and started to relax and show composure when in possession. A free kick from Joseph arched into the top corner gave Chisholm a 1-0 lead, and soon after Issac struck a shot into the bottom corner after a fine run to make it 2-0. Lake Joondalup were sent reeling by Chisholm’s swift counter attacks and Elijah also hit a post as Chisholm surged for a third goal.
The message at half-time was to maintain belief, composure and work for each other to stay in the lead. As the second half progressed both teams kept pressing and Lake Joondalup managed to get a goal back to make it 2-1. Chisholm responded immediately and, from the re-start, the ball found its way to Luca who chipped the ball over the advancing Lake Joondalup’s goalkeeper to make it 3-1.
The drama did not end there and Lake Joondalup kept believing and scored their second goal to make if 3-2 with 2 minutes remaining. In what was a very tense last few minutes Chisholm held steadfast and resolute in defence to see out the game to win 3-2 and be crowned “ACC Champions 2026”.
In all their seven games in this tournament, the team has remained unbeaten throughout.
Congratulations to all our squad who have all played their role in this achievement and our departing Year 12 players who have finished their Chisholm soccer career at the very top of ACC Sport.
I hope that everyone enjoys the celebrations and accolades that comes with winning a grand final and I look forward to doing it all again in 2027!
