Children’s Book Week® (17-23 August) is one of the highlights of the school year. The Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) will announce their Book of the Year winners at the start of the celebrations, but students can also have a say as Shadow Judges.

Students are invited to take part in the Sun Project: Shadow Judges by reading all nominated books and voting for their preferred title. Mrs Black and a dedicated band of students from Years 7-9 have been hard at work reading and discussing the six nominated titles in the Older Readers category. They will then select their favourite title and submit their vote to the CBCA.

This is a wonderful initiative that rewards the author that the students, not the adults, truly appreciate. What more acclaim could a writer want!
