Last week, two lucky Food Science and Technology classes headed off to the Swan Valley for a day of enjoying the tastes and sights of local food producers.
Starting with breakfast, roasting and tasting at Yahava Koffee, the students were buzzing. Speaking of buzzing, the next stop was the beautiful Windarrah Honey, where the students met some local beekeepers and enjoyed a tasting of a variety of honeys, from Jarrah to Wildflower.
It was then time to meet the Swan Valley Sisters, checking out their farm shop (stocked from a variety of small local producers) and mandarin picking! Pockets full of citrus, the students bussed to the Swan Valley Station, “celebrating local foods”, a stunning gift shop, marron lake and met Leo, the very friendly cockatoo.
After lunch at the Henley Brook Restaurant, students popped into the Margaret River Chocolate factory to enjoy the free samples and make some last-minute Mother’s Day purchases.
Back by popular request, students ducked into the Maison café for some delicious macaroons.
Perfect weather, delicious food and friendly local producers! Truly, “celebrating local foods”.
