On Friday 25 August, Chisholm Catholic College was invited to present their Earthquake-Proof Project at the 2023 CEWA STEM Showcase. Year 9 students: Mitchell Glover, Thomas Gregory, Lola Di Dio, Madeleine Adams, Christian Campbell, Jai Debono and Sophie Christie represented the College brilliantly and their project was well received. The students secured the Award for Best Communication which was attributed to the students’ high level of articulation and understanding for their project.
Project Brief
Designing earthquake-proof buildings can be lifesaving, especially for people living near tectonic boundaries. The students investigated the causes of earthquakes and their effects on building designs. They selected a particular location that they think would benefit from earthquake engineering and designed a building that would be suitable for this location. Students incorporated earthquake-proofing technology and explored the science behind why these designs would be suitable for their chosen area.
