Today, we pause as a Chisholm Community to honour and reflect on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – a feast that reminds us of the profound dignity of the human person and the promise of eternal life.
The Church teaches that at the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed body and soul into heaven. This was not just a reward for her unique role as the Mother of Jesus, but a sign of hope for all of us. Mary’s Assumption reveals what God intends for each of us – not to be lost to death, but to be raised to new life with Him.
At Chisholm Catholic College, we are inspired by Mary’s faith, courage and humility. She said “yes” to God without knowing where it would lead – trusting, loving and serving even in uncertainty and suffering. She is a model for how we might live our lives; with openness to God, with a spirit of compassion and with a heart that seeks justice and peace.
For students, Mary’s Assumption invites us to think beyond what we see. In a world that often values achievement, image and success, Mary reminds us that holiness is found in simple, faithful living – in small acts of love, in daily choices for good, in saying “yes” to what is right.
For staff, her life calls us to nurture not only minds but hearts, to lead with patience, to teach with gentleness and to guide our students with the same care and trust that Mary showed in raising her son.
Let us be inspired today by Mary’s journey – a life lived in deep relationship with God, culminating in a glorious homecoming. May her Assumption give us hope in times of struggle, assurance in times of doubt and joy in times of celebration.
May we walk together, as a community of faith and learning, always seeking to live with the same faith, hope and love that Mary did.
Mary, assumed into heaven – pray for us.
