Community service is one of the most powerful ways students can make a positive impact. Whether it’s volunteering at a shelter, tutoring a younger student or helping clean up a park, these small acts help build stronger, kinder communities.
But it’s not just about giving back – it’s also about personal growth. Service teaches valuable skills like teamwork, leadership and empathy. It can also introduce you to new interests and help you connect with others.
The Year 10 students have been volunteering their services at People Who Care who look after our elderly and disabled community members. The feedback from both the organisation and the students have been extremely positive, the volunteers have loved having our students with them.
You don’t need to do something big to make a difference. Just start where you are – in your school, neighbourhood or local organisations. When students step up to serve, they don’t just change the world – they change themselves for the better.
