Chisholm Catholic College gathered as one community on Wednesday for a wonderful celebration to officially begin the academic year. The Opening Mass brought together students, staff and special guests in a vibrant expression of faith and community spirit.
A highlight of the celebration was the formal welcome of our new Principal, Mr Simon Harvey, to the College. Mrs Julie Hornby, Deputy Executive Director of Catholic Education WA, led this important moment, officially introducing Mr Harvey to his new role and to the Chisholm Community.
The Mass was enriched by the presence of distinguished guests, including Dominican Sisters: Edith Murphy, Margaret Scharf and Mary Ryan, whose connection to our College tradition added special significance to the occasion. We were also honoured to have Mr Scott Bradley from our College Advisory Council in attendance.
Our sincere thanks go to Fr Zyggy Wloczek SDS for returning to the College to celebrate Mass with us. His presence was warmly welcomed by all who remembered his previous ministry at Chisholm.
The liturgy was beautifully coordinated by our Ministry Prefect and Assistant Prefect, Trinity Jones and Elizabeth D’Castro, who served as MCs with grace and confidence. Many wonderful students contributed their gifts as Altar Servers, Readers and Sound and Vision operators, ensuring the smooth running of this important celebration.
In his homily, Fr Zyggy reminded us that at the heart of education at Chisholm is the call to Grow in Christ. He challenged the entire community to support each other as we nurture that growth in all aspects of our life this year – a message that resonated deeply as we embark on this new chapter together.
The Opening Mass set a powerful tone for 2026, uniting our College community in faith, hope and shared purpose.
