Education does not occur in isolation, certainly not one that is grounded in faith. The adage, ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ points to the need for a community that challenges and celebrates individuals as they grow into adulthood – for Chisholm, Grow in Christ (our Motto).
Education is a team effort which begins with parent/guardians as the primary educators of their children and then supported by the wider community. That community involves parish, schools, clubs, places of employment and other groups gathering in person and/or online. These communities provide varied opportunities for individuals to develop – for Chisholm, the formation of the whole person (our Mission).
The past couple of days has seen the Chisholm community gather for College Photographs. These photographs offer a snapshot of the myriad of ways in which the student community is formed. From participation in their Pastoral Care Group, contribution to various student committees, involvement in the performing arts and other pursuits that demonstrate skill and service. The photographs also feature the staff as pivotal contributors to the education of the students through their presence as Pastoral Care Advisors and teachers of the Learning Areas. These photographs recognise various curriculum areas and acknowledge the dedicated staff who ensure the College’s Vision for Learning is enacted.
At Chisholm, community is non-negotiable and is indeed embedded in our Vision Statement. To “seek excellence” is a call for individuals to realise their unique purpose. Let’s continue to grow individuals of Character, Learning and Compassion (our Values) in and with community.
