From Monday 5 May to Thursday 8 May, three of Chisholm’s staff members, Mr Cory Tickner, Mr Joel Downes and I, travelled 130 km north of Broome to Sacred Heart School in Beagle Bay to deliver hands-on workshop sessions with students in Years 5 to 8. The Beagle Bay area has deep First Nations heritage and the significance of the famous Sacred Heart Church, known for its stunning pearl shell altar.
The visit was a great success, students enthusiastically participated in hands-on sessions that focused on two creative projects: constructing a pencil box and building a toy spinner. The workshops were well structured and highly interactive, with all students fully engaged from start to finish. The sense of accomplishment was clear as they proudly completed their projects, showcasing not only their technical skills but also their creativity and teamwork.
The visit also included a meaningful “On Country” experience with the Nyul Nyul rangers, where students sourced local wood for upcoming projects such as the comfort cross. The final day included planning sessions between staff to strengthen the partnership, share training insights and develop future projects, including links to tourism and continued professional development.
This visit marks a significant step in the continuing partnership between our schools. With strong student engagement, meaningful cultural connections and clear goals for the future, the Beagle Bay visit was a rewarding and impactful experience for all involved.
