Last Saturday, Chisholm had three teams compete in the Creative Edge Competition State Final at Curtin University.
To reach the final, the teams had to complete the 6-week challenge and present it at the regional final. The 6-week challenge involved students working together to solve a problem that they are presented with in a creative and innovative way. The students work before and after school for the entire six weeks, giving up their own time and without assistance from anyone outside the team. They were encouraged to explore possibilities and experiment with a range of ideas as they worked towards their best possible solution. The students need to write a script and build all of the props and costumes from a very limited list of allowable items so that they can present the solution as a group performance in front of a judging panel.
In addition, teams were given an “Impromptu Creativity Challenge” on the day of the competition.
All three teams made it through the regional competition and were selected to perform at the State final. At the State final the students were given a whole new problem and had to repeat the entire 6-week challenge again, however, the timeline for completing this was dramatically reduced to three hours. During these three hours the students also had no communication without any outside people and were not allowed to use any form of technology to assist them.
All three of our teams performed well and represented Chisholm Catholic College to the highest level. At the end of the day the Society and Environment team won their division. This was a fantastic effort as it was the second year in a row that this team outperformed all others to take out the title.
