English and Literature students enjoyed two memorable evenings of theatre during the Winter season. On Wednesday 19 June, our Year 11 and 12 students attended Black Swan Theatre Company’s sellout production of the Sydney Theatre
Production hit, RBG: Of Many, One, by Suzi Miller, starring the immensely talented Australian actress, Heather Mitchell. The drama celebrates the life and formidable grit, courage and intellect of cultural icon, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, the second woman appointed judge to the US Supreme Court.
On Thursday 27 June, Year 10 and 11 students attended a production of The Doll’s House Part 2 by Lucas Hnath at the Blue Room Theatre. The drama offers a contemporary sequel to Ibsen’s classic 1879 play which Year 11 Literature students will be studying later in the year. It interrogates ideas about identity, gender, family dynamics and social constraints.
A few words on RBG from Charlotte Widderington-Oliver and Evangeline Frew (Year 11):
Being able to see RBG: Of Many, One, was an incredible opportunity. We were inspired by the amount of emotion one actress could convey. We felt as if we were the only people there watching Ruth Bader Ginsberg’s life play out from her humble origins all the way to the Supreme Court. It was as if we were reliving history. Every emotion on stage resonated with us. When the character was upset, we shed tears when she was joking, we laughed. It was a performance we will always remember.
