FROM THE PRINCIPAL: November Remembrance

November 5, 2021

The first days of November are significant for a number of reasons and in our Catholic tradition always highlight two important elements of our liturgical calendar that we remember. The 1st of November is celebrated as All Saints Day, a tradition dated back to the 4th century when Christians began to celebrate Feast days for various martyrs in the church. Eventually this became more formally recognised as a day when we acknowledge and celebrate all of the Saints, known and unknown.

This is followed by All Souls Day on the 2nd of November and significantly it’s the day where we focus our intentions and prayers around the faithfully departed. Essentially this day of prayer and remembrance is observed by Catholics to pay our respects and reflections on family members and others who have died. A part of that remembrance at the College is highlighted by the provision of a large book in our Chapel for names and prayers to be entered by those who wish to do so.
