Traditionally at the start of November, we faithfully acknowledge All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day, remembering the Saints and those we have loved and lost from this earthly life. We are all touched by death and loss, and the marking of these times with solemn occasions such as All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day brings some consolation and a reminder of our eternal life in heaven.
Recently, during a staff prayer experience, we were invited into a powerful reflection through three incredible art pieces from our Visual Arts students. While each piece was unique in style and expression, in many ways, all three were inspired by a common human experience, the loss of a loved one. Through their art, these students gave voice to grief, but most notably, the greatest emotion of all – love.
What struck me most was the reminder that loss is never simply an end. The people we love continue to influence and inspire us. Through these amazing art pieces, our students demonstrated remarkable courage, transforming their own personal experiences and that of their families, into works that evoke reflection, love and healing.
And as I conclude, I offer our thoughts and prayers to those in our community who are grieving at this time:
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace. Amen.
God bless.
