Harmony Day

March 21, 2025

Harmony Day is a wonderful celebration of colour, national pride and our multicultural society that is Chisholm and Australia. In Australia, we are blessed to be able to live in peace and harmony with our neighbour. The theme “Everyone Belongs” highlights the respect, acceptance and unity of our diverse cultures.

Our Harmony Day Assembly commenced with our Procession of National Flags that represent our Chisholm community, with the playing of the didgeridoo by Mr Ricks reminding us of the First Nations of this land. After Zara Consen sang a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem, our Harmony Prayer was read in several languages – Noongar, Italian, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, Chinese and Swahili. The 2025 ACC Swimming Squad was later presented to the College by Senior Swim Captains, Aurelia Leach and Lucas Muccilli, and Junior Swim Captains, Leah van den Adel and Liam Leach. After that, the students who participated in the Study Tour to Italy shared their experiences with the College. We also watched the Harmony Day video created by the Community Relations Committee. The Social Justice committee held a raffle for all students in traditional dress.

The culmination of our Harmony Day Assembly was a highly energetic and talented lion performance by Vietnamese performers from the GDPT Chan Tin Lion Dance Troupe. The lion dance (múa lân) is a significant part of Vietnamese culture, especially during grand celebrations. While it originates from China, the Vietnamese have adapted and developed their own distinct style. Vietnamese lions often have bigger eyes, shorter snouts, and a more playful appearance. Their movements are more acrobatic, with performers showcasing high jumps, lifts and balancing acts.

“It was lively, engaging and a fantastic way to share the rich culture with our whole community. The energy and excitement it brought to the event were truly memorable and it was wonderful to see everyone so captivated.” (Mrs Bee Tee, Chinese Teacher)

We are truly blessed to be able to celebrate our multicultural Chisholm community where everyone can feel welcomed, loved and included.
