Harmony Day

March 20, 2026

Chisholm celebrated Harmony Day with a spectacular celebration of colour, national pride and multiculturalism that is Chisholm and Australia. The theme “Everyone Belongs” highlights the respect, acceptance and unity of our diverse cultures.

Our Harmony Day Assembly commenced with our Procession of National Flags that represent our Chisholm community, with the playing of the didgeridoo by Mr Ricks along with two of our Year 12 First Nations students, Yagan Joshi and Luke Ninyett. After we sang the National Anthem, led by Victoria Kolpa, our Harmony Prayer was read in several languages – English, Noongar, Chinese, Italian, French, Ukrainian, Hindi and Spanish.

The 2026 ACC Swimming Squad was later presented to the College by Senior Swim Captains, Lauren Kingston and Nate Cooper, and Junior Swim Captains, Olivia Krans and Mia Levings.

The culmination of our Harmony Day Assembly was a highly energetic and talented dance, the Hopak, which was presented by the Roztiazhka Ukrainian Cossack Dancers. The Hopak is one of Ukraine’s most famous traditional dances, celebrated for its powerful movements, athletic jumps and strong sense of national pride. Originating in the 16th century among the Ukrainian Cossacks, the Hopak was first performed as a victory dance to celebrate success in battle. Over time, it evolved from an improvised male dance into a structured folk performance that includes both men and women, showcasing strength, agility and grace. The dance holds deep cultural significance for Ukrainians, symbolising freedom, resilience and the warrior spirit of the Cossack people. Characterised by high leaps, squats, rapid footwork and expressive gestures, the Hopak reflects both individual skill and community unity. We thank our very own Mr Wityk and the Ukrainian Cossack Dancers for joining our community and sharing the powerful expression of Ukrainian identity, history and cultural pride.

“Harmony Day 2026 was a day of representing and taking pride in all our cultures that we have across our multicultural College. It was a fun day where we celebrated cultures with our flag bearing ceremony we held at the start of the Assembly which set the mood for the rest of the day. It was a cool experience to also see Mr Wityk and the Cossack Dancers right in front of us.” (Chad Svenningsen-Wee and Angus Tyers, Year 12 Prefects).

We are truly blessed to be able to celebrate our multicultural Chisholm community where everyone can feel welcomed and included.
