Harmony Week is an annual celebration of Australia’s cultural diversity and the benefits it brings to the Australian community, one of the most successful multicultural societies in the world. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural background, united by a set of core Australian values and building on over 65 000 years of First Nations culture.
On Friday 20 March, we will proudly celebrate our multicultural community with a College Assembly in the morning, commencing with a Flag Procession and concluding with the presentation of our ACC Swim Squad. Students are reminded that:
- They are permitted to wear casual dress, though encouraged to wear their cultural dress (receive House Points and can get changed after assembly into more comfortable clothing if they wish), dress in orange (the National Harmony Day colour) or wear a sports jersey that represents a national team
- Casual dress needs to be appropriate as indicated in page 23 of Student Handbook – modest clothing (no bare midriffs, excessively short skirts or shorts, low cut tops) AND fully enclosed shoes
- They should be mindful of their PE lessons on the day and bring their PE Uniform including sports shoes
- $2.00 will be collected for Project Compassion and the privilege of wearing casual dress throughout the day
- There will be no Period 5 lesson and the College will cycle through the remaining periods when dismissed from the assembly.
Thank you for your support as we celebrate our cultural diversity and work together to make our school a place where everyone belongs. If you have any queries regarding Harmony Day, please contact your child’s PCA or Head of Year.
