Last week, we celebrated Languages Week. It was a vibrant week full of various events, starting on Monday with a gelato treat for all Year 7 students.
On Tuesday, our Year 8 Italian students learned how to make authentic bruschetta, while the Year 7 Chinese classes enjoyed BBQ pork buns.
Wednesday featured a special guest, Mr Pezzano, who entertained our Year 8 Italian students with the magical sound of his accordion, playing traditional Italian music. That same evening, we had two excursions. The first took our Year 9 Chinese students to Pearl River Restaurant, where they enjoyed authentic Chinese cuisine. The second was hosted at Laguna Veneto Club, where the Year 9 Italian students played bocce, sang Italian karaoke and enjoyed dinner. They also had the chance to play scopa and briscola. We are still waiting to announce the winner of the competition.
On Friday, we took our Year 10 students to Fremantle, where they interviewed Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge about her Italian heritage. They also enjoyed authentic Italian pasta at the Italian Club. The French classes had the chance to taste some wonderful French sweets, and next week, they will experience contemporary French hip-hop dancing, instructed by Ea Sulak of Perth French Theatre. Instructions and music lyrics will be in French. Year 8 French students have been enjoying the warmer afternoons learning to play the French game pétanque.
It was indeed an amazing week, thanks to our hardworking staff who organised all these events and introduced our students to a range of authentic cultural activities from China, Italy and France.
