During Languages Week last week, our Chinese language students enjoyed a mix of tasty treats and cultural fun! Year 7s savoured yummy BBQ pork buns and soft drinks, with a lively chopstick competition planned for the following week. Year 8s got creative with fish crafts. In Chinese, the word for fish “鱼” (yú) sounds like “surplus” in “年年有余,” wishing everyone abundance every year. Year 9s enjoyed dinner at Pearl River Restaurant, sang a thankful song and tested their knowledge with a quiz competition. Years 10–12 were also treated to delicious BBQ buns.
We wish all our students continued success, happiness and good fortune in their learning journey!
Year 7 French students created a poster on French culture entitled Four French Fascinations, featuring notable things, facts and people from France. As part of the celebration, students brought ethnic food from home to share with their classmates, honouring both French culture and the rich diversity within the class.
Year 8 students also learned how to make French crêpes. Everyone participated: some prepared the batter, others chopped the ingredients and some cooked the crêpes. The activity was enjoyed by all, as students made and shared crêpes in a warm and convivial atmosphere. Some classes enjoyed a lively game of pétanque and some traditional French sweets.
Our Italian language students celebrated culture through food, fun and creativity!
Year 7 students designed colourful posters, learned the traditional Italian card game scopa and enjoyed an authentic Italian snack. Year 8 Italian students rolled up their sleeves to prepare delicious bruschetta. In the senior years, Year 10 and 11 Italian students created hearty homemade lasagne together. To cap it all off, our Year 12 Italian class gathered on Thursday for a special dinner at an authentic pizzeria, sharing a true taste of Italian dining.
We are proud of our students for embracing language learning in such engaging and authentic ways!
