During Week 9, the College celebrated Mathematics Week with students taking part in a variety of enjoyable and fun activities that highlighted the many avenues in life which use mathematics.

Some of the activities were:

– Coffee Shop Games held throughout the week, giving students the opportunity to develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving skills through engaging games.

– Maths Week Quiz Hunt, where students moved around the school searching for clues, answering mathematical questions and working together to complete the challenge.

– Paper Plane Competition, where students designed and tested paper planes to see whose could travel the furthest.

– Puzzle and Board Games Day on Friday, encouraging students to collaborate, think strategically and enjoy mathematics in a social setting.

– “Guess the Staff Member Number” Challenge in the e-Learning Centre, with students estimating the total number associated with participating staff members.

– Whole-school PCG Puzzle Challenge running throughout the week, with PCGs competing to solve a range of mathematical puzzles and challenges.

The Mathematics Department would like to thank the many students who participated in the activities and who involved themselves in the day-to-day activities that involve Mathematics.

The week was about “having a go” and to quote Thomas Edison:

“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.”

“Just because something doesn’t do what you planned it to do doesn’t mean it’s useless.”

“There is no substitute for hard work.”

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”
