On Wednesday 18 March, Chisholm Catholic College celebrated National Ride to School Day. Students were encouraged to ride their bike to school. Other environmentally friendly options that were promoted include walking to school, riding a scooter, catching the bus or a train to school. A spot prize was awarded to one lucky cyclist.
It was great to see the bike racks looking a little busier than usual. Students are encouraged to walk to school every Wednesday, to take advantage of the fact they are wearing their ‘Wellness Wednesday’ uniforms.
A survey was conducted and the vast majority of students are still being driven to school. While we appreciate that some students may live further away from school, we would like to encourage students and parents to investigate other means of getting to school.
Laudato Si, Pope Francis’ encyclical on caring for our common home, calls for us “to treat the Earth as a shared, sacred gift, not simply a resource for immediate consumption, emphasising responsibility for future generations.” Chisholm Catholic College is well served by public transport and all school students are able to catch public transport for free during the week.
