Book Week is celebrated across Australia from 20-26 August with this year’s theme being “Dreaming with eyes open”. The eLearning Centre was decorated beautifully by our Library staff. They also ran a number of activities for staff and students. Below are some highlights:

On Monday, the Library kicked off Book Week festivities with an incursion by artist Linda Loo. Linda spoke to students about Aboriginal symbols when creating artwork and then students created their own stories on the library windows using paint pens.

On Tuesday, Aboriginal storyteller Bruce Loo visited the library to share the history and stories of Nyoongar People. Bruce told students the Dreaming stories of The Wagyl and The Crocodile and explained how the landscape of the Perth region was formed during a fierce battle between both animals. He taught students some Nyoongar words and shared stories of local history in some very enriching and rewarding small group sessions.

On Wednesday, the Library staff organised a pizza lunch for the top readers at Chisholm.

The Year 11 top reader, Danae O’Neil, reports: “We sat at tables with our friends and talked and ate the many pizzas. Towards the end of lunch, the top readers from each year group were announced and awarded a book voucher each. The Year 7 winner was Samuel Flanagan who was also the top borrower overall, Year 8 Jack Connell, Year 9 Grace Darcey, Year 10 Mia Antenucci, Year 11 Me (Danae O’Neil) and Year 12 Christina Bunney. While enjoying lunch, we discussed our favorite books we read this year and what we want to do when we leave school. We also cracked jokes with Mr Frost who was lovely to talk to. It was a lovely lunch and all thanks go to the Library staff. On behalf of everyone who attended the lunch, thank you!”
