FROM THE PRINCIPAL – Term 3 Week 5

August 18, 2022

Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
On Monday 15 August the Church celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Being a Holy Day of Obligation the College offered a Mass to students and staff to commemorate the end of Mary’s earthly life and her return to Heaven to be reunited with Jesus. As mother of Jesus, she is set apart from the rest of humanity since her body did not remain on earth but was assumed into heaven in anticipation of the general resurrection of the dead.

In addition to sincerely thanking Fr Bonaventure Echeta for generously giving of his time to celebrate Mass with us, we also offer our condolences on the recent passing of his father.

Angelico Art Exhibition
The 29th Annual Angelico Art Exhibition was opened and blessed by the Most Reverend Timothy Costelloe SDB, Archbishop of Perth on Tuesday evening. This exhibition is a wonderful showcase of creative, colourful, inspirational and spiritual works of visual art created by talented Western Australian Catholic school secondary students.

It was a pleasure to see Year 10 Chisholm student Jazmine Bastian receive the ‘Mixed Media’ award for her art piece: ‘Reality is what you perceive’. Congratulations Jazmine!

I encourage you to visit the Angelico Art Exhibition, located at Forrest Centre, 221 St George’s Terrace, Perth. It is open on weekdays from 9.00am to 5.00pm and concludes on Friday 26 August.

This week we farewell Mrs Kerry Venus who has been at Chisholm for over 11 years. Mrs Venus has made many valued contributions to the College. Her genuine and compassionate nature, extraordinary work ethic and her dedication to promoting excellence will be missed. We wish Mrs Venus much happiness in any future endeavour.

Ms Sharon Murphy has been welcomed back to teach Home Economics and next week we greet Ms Dana Kenworthy as a teacher of Business and IT. We wish both ladies a pleasant and rewarding experience at Chisholm.

We also extend our congratulations to Mrs Simone Firns who, this week, has begun her new role as Acting Head of Year 10 and to Mr Mike Burgermeister in his new role as Acting Head of Learning Area for Business and IT from next week. Appreciation is also extended to Mr Mark O’Mara who will oversee the ONSITE programme for the remainder of this year.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and week ahead.
