FROM THE PRINCIPAL – Welcome to Term 2

April 29, 2022

I hope you had a happy and peaceful Easter. In his Easter message, Pope Francis reminds us that “Easter begins by upsetting our expectations. It comes with the gift of a hope that surprises and amazes us. Yet it is not easy to welcome that gift. At times – we must admit – this hope does not find a place in our hearts. Yet the Lord wants to give us different eyes, alive with hope that fear, pain and death will not have the last word over us.”

The beginning of a new term often results in some temporary staff changes. I hope the following people will find their experience to be rewarding and professionally enriching:

  • Jane Walker – French teacher
  • Amy McGuire – Aboriginal Liaison Officer
  • Claire Bentley – HaSS and eLearning teacher
  • Melissa Galea – Acting Stellatus Coordinator
  • Massimo Cugola – Acting Head of Learning Area: Languages
  • Gareth Goerke – Acting Director of Music

Earlier this week I enjoyed meeting many parents at our Parent/Student/Teacher Interviews. Parents and their children embraced the opportunity of meeting with teachers to discuss the child’s educational progress. The pleasing attendance at this event emphasised that the education of students is a three-way partnership centred on the student.

On Thursday morning we began the term with a ceremony to commemorate ANZAC Day. Obviously with current COVID-19 restrictions still in place we were not able to gather as a whole College, so this observance was streamed into classrooms. While we experienced inclement weather, the rain did not diminish the significance of the occasion. I thank the many students and staff who contributed to this special event.

I hope you have an enjoyable weekend and week ahead.

Thought for the week (in keeping with Pope Francis’ message on hope):
