Mock Trial Round 2

August 11, 2022

In another year of COVID delays, Round 2 was in Term 3 this year instead of Term 2.

On Tuesday, Chisholm’s teams took on the renowned Mount Lawley SHS. We were excited to be back in the main Supreme Court building, this time in Courts 6 and 7. The civil case involved our client, the Defendant, being sued for $55,000 for the sale price of a car which the Plaintiff claimed still belonged to him. There were legal arguments over the terms of a verbal contract, or whether it was a gift, as well as a range of varying witness statements just like in a real trial. Our witnesses in particular were very strong both in their recall and in their answers under cross-examination and all teams performed strongly. Chisholm Suits won in a thriller 140.5 to 140, and Chisholm Law & Order won 125 to 119. The judges provided positive and constructive feedback.

It was lovely to see parents allowed back to attend, as spectators, to see the students perform. Thanks again to our coach Honourable John McKechnie for the invaluable coach meetings.
