Perth Festival Premiere – Panawathi Girl by Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company

On Sunday 13 February, Year 12 Literature students were treated to the lively, entertaining and memorable musical Panawathi Girl at His Majesty’s Theatre. Penned by First Nations playwright, David Milroy, the musical, set in the 1960s, follows the story of Molly Chubb as she embarks on a journey to discover her roots. What emerges is a coming-of-age narrative which celebrates culture and identity whilst also cleverly interrogating race relations in our country.

Perth Festival – Jali by Oliver Twist at the State Theatre’s Studio Underground

Year 11 Literature students had the privilege of being charmed by talented storyteller and comedian, Oliver Twist on Sunday 20 February. Cassidy Doudakis 11P2 reflects on the experience:

“Jali was so incredible! It is difficult to find enough words to praise it. Oliver Twist is an incredible performer and his storytelling abilities are supreme. It is so fantastic that he was able to create such a great show by drawing on his life experiences as a refugee from Rwanda and all the trauma and hardships he has endured. The atmospheric lighting, the music and the simple yet cleverly layered set ensured that this one-man show was amazing! It was truly inspirational to hear Twist’s story and to celebrate his success. I wish I could see the show again just to experience that feeling of awe I felt after it finished”.
