Visual Arts Incursions

March 16, 2023

Chisholm Visual Arts students have begun the year with two separate artist incursions. The students have been inspired and exposed to new techniques to support their upcoming projects.

The Year 11 and Year 12 ATAR students recently had the great pleasure of visiting artist, Rachelle Dusting, workshop oil painting techniques with them. An accomplished portrait artist, Rachelle teaches how to paint realistically, skills such as using a great photo for source imagery, setting up a paint palette, using a grey base, underpainting, tonal gradation and use of cool and warm colours for shadows. The skills acquired by the students will be hugely beneficial for all their work this year.

The Year 9 Visual Art students were extremely fortunate to have an artist incursion this week with a local street artist John Herne, from Blank Walls. This is the second year that we have been fortunate to have John work with our students.

Students were introduced to the techniques and processes involved in creating an urban art piece. This involved explanation on safety techniques and the various spray-painting methods to get different results from your spray can.

Students will utilise these skills in the creation of their skateboard designs for ‘Echoes of Childhood’ project, which is influenced by the international street artists Shephard Fairy (Obey) and Caledonia Curry (Swoon).
