Over the school holidays, our Nyoongar Season Fire Pit was installed in the middle of the Yarning Circle. The Aboriginal Education Team have worked with Mr Hawes to create this fire pit which has animal designs from the Mural Piece that Linda Loo painted in the Aboriginal Education Office. Due to the Nyoongar Season Rock Art damage, it was decided that it be replaced with something that can endure the harsh weather we have throughout the year. The fire pit has six panels with each panel representing a Nyoongar season. Those six Nyoongar seasons are Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang. We have just entered Bunuru season which is considered the hottest time of the year and is the season of adolescence.
If you have a spare moment to see the new fire pit, please feel free to have a look. The Aboriginal Team are excited for this year and new projects that will arise.
