This week, Year 8 Academic Extension English students participated in an engaging picturebook incursion centred on Shaun Tan’s acclaimed text Cicada.

Facilitated by the Fremantle Literature Centre, the workshop explored Tan’s distinctive artwork, visual storytelling techniques and the role of visual literacy in creating meaning. Students analysed how images communicate ideas and emotions, gaining inspiration for their own creative and analytical responses while developing a deeper appreciation of picturebooks as a powerful literary form.
