Last week, the Year 10 Assistant Prefects and Year 12 Prefects had the privilege of participating in a leadership workshop led by David Castelanelli, former Head Boy and founder of Levitate Learning.
In our session, we discussed emotional intelligence and communication. The importance of listening was highlighted, encouraging us to improve communication and our leadership skills. We learned that as a leader, it is often necessary to shift perspectives to cater for the needs of others. David emphasised the importance of leading with sincerity and integrity, as ‘it is what we do even when others are not watching that speaks louder than our words’.
Overall, the session was very insightful and we were each able to take away something to help us improve in our leadership journey. It was a lovely experience to bond as a leadership team and understand where our team can improve.
As a group we learnt a lot, especially being able to pinpoint different tactics and mechanisms to communicate, understand body language and to better understand each other based on emotion and attention. David was influential and a lot of fun, keeping us engaged and listening the whole time. All in all, it was a wonderful experience for all of us and we cannot wait for the next session later in the year.
