R U Legal? is a programme of free community legal education sessions and resources for young people between 10 and 18 years old. It has been developed by Legal Aid WA to provide young people with information about the criminal justice system and the laws that may affect them.
On Tuesday 9 May, Sam, a solicitor from Legal Aid WA, came to Chisholm and presented to all year groups. Topics covered include:
YEAR 7: Common offences for young people; Cyber-bullying
YEAR 8: Sexting and Image-based abuse; Cyber-bullying
YEAR 9: School Fights; Drugs and Alcohol
YEAR 10: Sex and Consent; School Fights
YEAR 11: Police Powers; Cars and Driving
YEAR 12: Sex and Consent; The criminal justice system.
We hope that the students found the sessions relevant and worthwhile and were able to take away some valuable learnings from the sessions.
More information and valuable resources for both students and their parents can be obtained at: https://resources.legalaid.wa.gov.au/project/rulegal
