This week at Chisholm we celebrated Reconciliation Week. To begin the week, we lit the fire in the Yarning Circle to welcome in the week with good spirits and positive energy.
The First Nations students had an incursion on Tuesday, where they learnt to make damper and cooked them over the fire pit. On Wednesday, staff members received Reconciliation Week themed cookies and cupcakes for morning tea whilst being introduced to a First Nations card game called ‘Decolonise Yourself’ in the staffroom.
At our Whole College Assembly, First Nations student, Adriel Opum, along with the Junior Choir and three other students, Asher Jupp, Zara Consen and Victoria Kolpa, sung a moving rendition of ‘I Am Australian’. Mr John Bormolini was also acknowledged for the amazing work he has done for the First Nations people throughout his career and Principalship. Mr Jake Ricks and CEWA’s Mr Norman Brahim said a few words to thank Mr Bormolini and presented him with a gift.
All PCGs also had the opportunity to do a small reconciliation themed activity where they created their own Acknowledgement to Country.
