Showband and Concert Band Concert

September 22, 2022

Last Friday 16 September, Chisholm’s Music Department concluded a busy term of performances with its annual Showband and Concert Band Concert, this time including and introducing to some, the newly formed Symphonic Orchestra.

The Concert opened with Showband led by Mrs Lake showcasing a number of incredible solos by Owen Koroll on trumpet, Jade Kingston on trombone, Chad West on alto saxophone, Finn McKibbin on bass, and Francesco Rachetti on trumpet. The jazz style continued into Concert Band which opened with ‘The Bare Necessities’ led by Mr Goerke featuring more solos by Thomas Pham on clarinet, Owen Koroll on trumpet, Kieran Smith on trombone, and Nelson Huynh on tuba.

Joining Mr Goerke, conducting arrangements of music from ‘West Side Story’ and ‘The Avengers’, was Mr Leak, and adding to the popular tunes was a medley of songs featured in the movie ‘Sing’ led by Band Captain Owen Koroll.

Owen Koroll was awarded the College Band Award in recognition for his dedication and leadership to the programme and his outstanding contribution this year.

Finally, the string students joined the stage for Symphonic Orchestra which performed the epic works ‘Jupiter – Bringer of Jollity’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ led by Mr Goerke and Mrs Lake respectively, as well as a funky number ‘Treasure’ led by Owen Koroll, bringing to the stage an entertaining dance feature by Chisholm’s Got Talent winner and percussion student, Rohan Kapoor.

We would like to thank all staff involved: Mr Gareth Goerke, Mrs Heidi Lake, Mr Mathew Leak, Mrs Rebecca Williams, Miss Stephanie Gilhooley, Mr Paul Olsen and Sr Chau Ho, as well as our wonderful instrumental tutors.

We also thank the students and congratulate them for their achievement, and we look forward to the Year Bands Concert next term.
