Sport reigns supreme for 2024 in the Chisholm library with soccer being the subject of two of the most frequently borrowed novels and biographies of soccer stars taking out the top five most popular true stories.

Diary of a Soccer Star was the most borrowed general fiction book of the year, followed by The Maze Runner, We’ll Always Have Summer and Goal! The Dream Begins. The most popular Young Adult (Year 9+) titles were All the Bright Places, One of Us is Lying and Better than the Movies. The influence of Netflix on reading choice is clear as all but two of these titles are also Netflix productions.

Not surprisingly, authors of popular series were very successful. Top choice was Rick Riordan (‘Percy Jackson’ series), then Jeff Kinney (‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ series) and Lauren Tarshis (‘I survived…’ series).

Our library will continue to buy books that students want and need. If their requests are anything to go by, look out for books about basketball players featuring in 2025.
