Staff Spotlight – 30 Years of Service

November 1, 2024

As mentioned in our Principal’s article last week, the Chisholm community is very proud to celebrate three staff members who have reached 30 years of service in Catholic Education: Mrs Maria Gaspar-Fernandes, Mrs Evie Morris and Mrs Ann Franich.

Mrs Gaspar-Fernandes and Mrs Morris shared more with us about their journey:

Mrs Maria Gaspar-Fernandes

“My wonderful journey at Chisholm Catholic College began in 1993 when Mr Cooney gave me the opportunity to join this brilliant school. I started teaching Italian and French at the Senior Campus on Wood Street. Once the College came to the current Campus, I taught Languages from Years 8 to 12. In the meantime, I continued my studies in Religious Education and upon completion I was able to also teach Religion. I love being part of two great Departments.

I have also enjoyed being a Pastoral Care Advisor as it has allowed me to make special connections with each one of the students in my group.

My 31 years at Chisholm have been amazing and I am blessed to be working with inspiring teachers as well as fantastic students. It is very rewarding to see students develop spiritually as well as culturally and becoming valuable citizens.”

Mrs Evie Morris

“I’ve been lucky enough to be at Chisholm Catholic College for the past five years working mainly with Year 7s in Learning Support.

I’ve been fortunate to be given enriching and wonderful opportunities to grow professionally and personally over the years in the six Catholic schools I’ve worked in for which I am immensely grateful.

Over the past 30 years I’ve worked with K-12, each year group has its rewards and challenges, most of all I love watching the students grow in knowledge, confidence and assist them to reach their potential, working alongside their teachers.

For the last 12 years I’ve worked with Year 7 students as they enter their transition into high school, this has been my favourite and inspirational time, as I love seeing them emerge and flourish as they settle into high school.

This is what makes me love my job, along with working with wonderful individual teachers and currently a fantastic Learning Support Department.”

Congratulations Mrs Gaspar-Fernandes, Mrs Morris and Mrs Franich on this great milestone, Chisholm is very fortunate to have you!
