At lunchtime on Wednesday, Year 7 students took part in a National Science Week competition to Decode the Universe using Natureās Hidden Language.
In teams, students completed two science challenges designed to uncover hidden clues in the natural world. Students began at the Laser Interface activity exploring the use of lasers to create an interference pattern to calculate the width of a single hair. Students then Decoded DNA by analysing environmental DNA samples to solve the mystery of which predator was responsible for the disappearance of birds in a nature reserve.
The atmosphere was energetic and competitive, with points awarded for accuracy, reasoning and teamwork. By the end, students had not only cracked the codes but also deepened their understanding of how science can reveal natureās most closely guarded secrets.
Congratulations to all participants, you showed that with curiosity the universeās mysteries can be decoded!
