We are thrilled to announce that Clem Chapman, a talented Year 7 student, has achieved remarkable success in the prestigious Craig Silvey Award for Young Writers hosted by the City of Subiaco. Clem’s captivating piece, titled “Bookstore Bandit”, earned him the second place award in the Lower Secondary category.
This year’s competition was incredibly fierce, with over 900 entries from school students across Western Australia. Clem’s achievement is a testament to his creativity, dedication and exceptional writing skills. His work features in an anthology of winning pieces, which you can explore here: https://www.subiaco.wa.gov.au/see-do/things-to-see-do/community-awards/craig-silvey-award-for-young-writers.
“Bookstore Bandit” follows Agent Rivas Montgomery as she investigates a series of bookstore robberies where the thief steals books instead of money. During a stakeout, she encounters the thief, known as the Bookstore Bandit, but is fatally injured. Detective Samuel Horowitz takes over the case, uncovering clues that lead to the arrest of Dan Susterland, a bookstore employee coerced into the crimes by his manager. Despite solving the case, the Bandit strikes again, this time targeting eBooks.
But the excitement doesn’t end there! Clem’s piece is also in the running for the People’s Choice Award and we encourage our College community to show their support by voting here: https://pollunit.com/en/polls/6241b8wxfgskbl0jxk8iyq by 27 October 2024.Â
Students will soon be able to read all the winning entries, including Clem’s, when it appears in our College’s eLearning collection.
