Congratulations to Year 12 Visual Arts student, Dan Pham, for receiving a third place in the prestigious Shaun Tan Art Award Senior Secondary category.  

The City of Subiaco proudly presents the 2025 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists. This visual art award encourages and celebrates imagination, innovation and creativity of WA young artists in Years 1-12.

Dan’s painting, Afterglow, is a dominant feature in the Exhibition due to the large scale and dynamic composition.

Dan explains that he created his work “to explore our increasing reliance on technology, revealing how this dependence dulls our instincts and disconnects us from reality, a reflection of the challenges faced by today’s society and younger generations.”The judges, impressed with his painting have commented that “The distance and depth of the artwork leads the eye through the painting and flicks of paint seem effortless and slick.”

The Top 50 artworks are currently exhibited at Subiaco Library until Sunday 3 August 2025.
