Over the July holidays, a group of dedicated students, Angel O’Meara, Thomas Gregory, Sophia Price, Jadyn Hollingum and Mary Wishart stepped up to make a difference by volunteering at the Thriive Camp. Their enthusiasm, energy and kindness helped create an unforgettable experience for children attending the camp.
Volunteering with Thriive teaches valuable life skills. The students took on various roles, from organising games and activities to assisting with mealtimes and ensuring everyone stayed safe. Their commitment helped foster a warm, welcoming environment where every child felt included and happy.
Many of the student volunteers said the experience was rewarding. “It was amazing to see the kids’ faces light up during the activities,” one student shared. “I learned a lot about teamwork and patience, and it felt great to give back to the community.”
The Thriive camps cannot run without our volunteers’ selfless dedication. Their efforts helped bring joy and memorable moments to children who might not have had the chance to enjoy a fun, safe holiday otherwise.
We applaud all the students who volunteered this year. Your hard work and positive spirit made a real impact, thank you for your generosity and kindness.
The following is an extract about the camp from their website:
“Thriive WA, formerly Edmund Rice Camps for Kids WA, provides life-changing respite programs for ‘at risk’ and disadvantaged WA children aged 7-16 and their families – many of whom wouldn’t otherwise have such opportunities.
Our programs are fun and engaging while also being developmentally-focussed and educational – most of all, we help kids feel seen and heard in a safe space!
Thriive WA also fosters the ongoing personal development of young adult volunteer leaders who act as friends and mentors to the children in our care.
Bringing the kids and young leaders together is powerful, creating a ripple effect for everyone involved, their loved ones and our wider community. Together, we Thriive!”
