During the January school holidays, 15 Year 11 and 12 Italian ATAR students embarked on an unforgettable Study Tour across Italy.
In Roma, we explored iconic sites like il Colosseo, la citta` del Vaticano and the Musei Vaticani. We also experienced the excitement of the Roman Derby and attended a beautiful Mass at the Pantheon.
Our journey continued with a visit to the Costa Amalfitana and Pompeii, where we marveled at the ruins of a city once buried under molten rock. In Firenze, we explored the birthplace of the Renaissance, climbed the Duomo and viewed some masterpieces of well-renowned artists at gli Uffizzi and l’Accademia. We also made a trip to Prato, home of our sister school.
The most anticipated part of our trip was Mondavio, a small medieval town in the Marche region. Here, we settled into Italian school life, improving our language skills—especially learning how to speak with our hands—and mastering the art of pasta-making.
One of the most memorable days was when we split up to stay with local families, indulging in the pasta we had worked so hard to prepare. We experienced the daily routine of Italian life: eating, talking, playing cards and an afternoon nap – un pisolino. That evening, we were treated to a performance showcasing the medieval history of Mondavio, complete with a sword battle.
To end our adventure, we visited the floating city of Venezia. Walking along the canals felt like stepping into a dream. The grand finale was l’ultima cena (the last supper), a special farewell dinner where we enjoyed local cuisine and reminisced about our favourite moments from the trip.
Mille grazie to Mr Cugola, Mrs Millimaci and Mr Tricoli for accompanying us on this trip of a lifetime!
