Surf Online Safe – Parent Cyber-Safety Seminar

July 30, 2026

Paul Litherland OAM from Surf Online Safe, will once again speak to our community on Wednesday 12 August and all parents are invited to attend the Parent Seminar from 5:30pm-7:00pm in B01 (College Performing Arts Centre).

For close to 20 years, Paul has been working at the coalface of online crime. Since leaving the Western Australia Police in 2014, he has grown to become one of the nation’s most recognised and highly awarded educators in the fields of Cyber Safety and Internet Awareness, culminating in being named the 2022 WA Australian of the Year. Paul works with over 850 schools and organisations across the country and will share his experiences as a WA Police Officer in the Technology Crime Investigation Unit and speak about the need for students and parents to remember the impact of their digital footprint, maintain levels of privacy when using apps and apply methods to remain safe in an online environment. Subjects covered will include: Cyber Bullying; Digital Citizenship; Online, Social Networking & Networking in general, Online Gaming and Website Use.

“As a parent, I can add that extra insight to my presentations as I am more than aware of the fear and apprehension parents have regarding the internet and the dangers that are out there. It is difficult to be a parent in this technological age and this helps me target my presentations more specifically to schools requirements. Having said that, it is also difficult to be a kid in this age. So it is important to take a realistic approach to internet use to make users more aware of risk, rather than simply say “don’t do this” or “don’t do that.” Together with my extensive history in law enforcement, I can assure you my presentations will have a very positive and inspiring impact on you and your kids.”

As you are aware, Information and Communication Technologies are a rapidly moving feast and so we encourage parents from all year levels to take advantage of this Parent Seminar and register your attendance via this TryBooking link: https://www.trybooking.com/DOIZU.

Paul will also be presenting to our Year 7 and 8 students during that day and contact your child’s Pastoral Care Advisor, Head of Year or myself if you have any queries.
