Tourism Excursion

March 14, 2024

Last Friday, the Year 12 Certificate II in Tourism students ventured to the Perth CBD to explore the attractions the city has on offer. Our day commenced with catching public transport to Northbridge during peak hour traffic to explore the various café strips and grab a well needed cup of coffee. The rest of the morning was spent viewing exhibits at Boola Bardip and the Art Gallery of Western Australia. We were very fortunate to view the glasswork of internationally recognised Kokatha and Nukunu artist Yhonnie Scarce as a part of the Perth Festival. The story of the works and Scarce’s broader practice illuminate the effects of uranium mining and disruption sites, both internationally and locally – particularly drawing attention to the site of Maralinga and the often-unknown impact of nuclear testing impacting Scarce’s birthplace of Woomera, South Australia.

After a well-deserved lunch break, the group made their way down to Elizabeth Quay to sample a variety of delicious offerings from Gusto Gelato and view the different waterfront projects taking place, before catching the bus back to school.
