At Chisholm, our library team, two teacher librarians, a library technician and two library assistants, have the privilege of working in a dynamic and rewarding environment. Here’s what we love most about being part of the school library:
Cultivating a Love of Reading
One of the best parts of our job is helping students discover the joy of reading. Whether it’s introducing reluctant readers to a book they’ll love or guiding them to the next book in a series, we love being part of their reading journey. Seeing students excited about reading and discussing books is incredibly fulfilling.
Engaging with Students and Staff
We treasure the relationships we build with both students and staff. From chatting with regular visitors about their weekend plans, to collaborating with teachers on projects, the connections we make are one of the highlights of our role.
Providing a Safe and Welcoming Space
The library is a haven for many students, offering a peaceful environment where they can relax, study, or simply be themselves. We love creating a space where everyone feels welcome and safe, whether they need a break from the yard or simply want to read and unwind.
Supporting Research and Information Literacy
Helping students develop their research and critical thinking skills is another rewarding part of our work. We guide them in finding reliable sources and teach them how to assess information critically, skills they’ll carry with them beyond school.
Contributing to Teaching and Learning
Collaborating with teachers and supporting the curriculum is at the heart of what we do. We enjoy curating resources, developing programs and working closely with students to foster their learning.
The Variety of the Role
Every day is different in the library and that’s something we love. From promoting great reads to helping students with assignments, our role is constantly evolving, keeping things exciting and fresh.
Books, Books, Books!
Finally, the best thing about working in the library is being surrounded by books! Whether it’s sharing our latest book recommendations or helping students discover new genres, we can’t get enough of the world of books.
