Through the initiative and efforts of two Year 9 students, Milo Gregory and Luca Vecchio, a raffle was held to raise money for the making of a wheelchair at Brother Ollie’s Wheelchairs for Kids. Inspired by working alongside Brother Ollie and his team of volunteers at the Wangara factory, Luca and Milo set a goal for the College Value of “Compassion”. They decided to raise money so that a child overseas, managing without functioning legs, can be given mobility and freedom through receiving a purpose-built wheelchair. Through the generosity of students and staff at Chisholm, the boys exceeded their expectation of raising money for one wheelchair and have enough for the production of two! The lucky and very happy raffle winner was Dylan Vu, Year 8. Congratulations Dylan!
On Wednesday, I took Milo and Luca to Br Ollie’s Wheelchairs For Kids factory and they handed over $503 that they raised through the raffle and cookie selling, which is enough to make two wheelchairs. Br Ollie congratulated and thanked them during morning tea with about 40 volunteers giving them a big round of applause.
