Year 12 Economics Excursion

August 22, 2024

Last Friday, four dedicated economic students: Amity Sheridan, Bianca De Mello, Noah Poole and Frankie Didio represented the College at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Western Australian (CCIWA) Student Economic Forum, sponsored by Curtin University.

The students listened to a presentation by CCIWA Senior Economist, Sam Collins, on the economic landscape. Beginning with the global economy and then focusing on the state of the Western Australian economy with specific reference to business conditions, households and the housing market.  Students were then fortunate enough to have a presentation by Steven Kemp, the Chief Marker of the ATAR Economics examinations. Steven provided the students with an insight into current economic conditions in relation to the syllabus and tips in how to navigate and what he thinks may arise in the upcoming 2024 exam.

The day finished with students participating in interactive exercises that challenged their understanding of economics. Chisholm students worked with top economic students from other schools across WA to complete data analysis and problem-based economics questions. This was a great opportunity for the students to network with likeminded students across the state and compare their knowledge and skills to those in some of Perth’s top achieving schools.
