In the last week of Term 2, our Year 12 students gathered for the Pastoral Care Retreat, an opportunity to step away from the demands of their final year and spend time reflecting on what it means to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. Inspired by the call of the first disciples, the Retreat centred on the theme “Catalysts for Christ” – people who inspire positive change by embodying Gospel values in their relationships, leadership and service to others.
Following the proud tradition of Chisholm Catholic College Retreats, the programme once again brought together the entire Year 12 cohort for a shared experience that was both memorable and transformative. The Retreat encouraged students to deepen their relationship with Christ while strengthening their connections with one another as they prepare for life beyond school.
Throughout the Retreat, students participated in a diverse range of experiences designed to engage the whole person – spiritually, emotionally, socially and physically. Moments of prayer and personal reflection provided opportunities to pause, listen and encounter God amid a busy final year. The opening celebration of the Eucharist reminded students that Christ is at the heart of our College community and continues to nourish and strengthen us for the journey ahead.
Community-building activities, games and workshops fostered trust, friendship and a strong sense of belonging among the cohort. Time spent outdoors in beautiful natural surroundings encouraged fresh perspectives, movement and appreciation for God’s creation, while presentations and experiential learning activities challenged students to consider the values that will shape their future.
A significant focus of the Retreat was vocation – not simply in terms of career choices, but as a call to discover the unique gifts, character and purpose God has placed within each person. Students were encouraged to discern how they might use these gifts in service of others and become leaders who bring hope, compassion and justice to their communities.
The Retreat was enriched by the guidance and support of dedicated presenters, staff and PCAs, whose presence helped create an atmosphere of encouragement and authentic connection. Opportunities for affirmation allowed students to recognise the gifts they see in one another while reflecting on the people they aspire to become.
Ultimately, the Year 12 Retreat reminded students that time intentionally set apart has the power to transform hearts. As they continue their final year at Chisholm, we pray they will embrace the challenge of being true Catalysts for Christ, living with faith, courage and compassion as they make a positive difference in the lives of others.
