On Wednesday morning, the Year 7s and Year 8s participated in a ‘Surf Online Safe’ session with guest presenter Paul Litherland. Paul shared his experiences as a WA Police Officer in the Technology Crime Investigation Unit and spoke about the need for students and parents to remember the impact of their digital footprint, maintain levels of privacy when using apps and apply methods to remain safe in an online environment.
Another message from Paul to the students was that when you post something, don’t assume that only your mates will see it. A private account isn’t private, as it doesn’t mean things won’t be seen or found. Privacy settings help you control your information to a degree but does not help you control where your information will go.
The students got a great deal out of the session and will hopefully take on board some of the very valuable lessons that Paul shared with them.
