Year 9 ‘Into Adulthood’ Launch – Pastoral Care Retreat

April 2, 2026

The corridor between childhood and adulthood is rarely a straight path. For Chisholm Catholic College’s Year 9 students, one remarkable day helped illuminate the way forward – the Year 9 Retreat Day, marking the official launch of the ‘Into Adulthood’ programme.

Anchored in this year’s theme, Challenge with Christ, the Retreat called students not simply to reflect, but to rise. To recognise who they are and begin to understand who they are becoming.

The day opened with intention. Through a series of purposeful activities, students were guided inward, exploring their own character strengths, examining how they make decisions and developing the self-awareness needed to face an increasingly complex world with both courage and clarity. These aren’t abstract skills. They are the tools of a life well-lived.

Equally important was the social dimension of the Retreat. Activities designed around communication and authentic connection reminded students that growing up doesn’t mean going alone. Relationships built on genuine respect and empathy aren’t just meaningful – they are formative. In learning to truly listen and engage, students practised something the world needs more of.

A standout moment came through the involvement of external group 24:7 Youth Ministry Team, whose members shared personal stories of faith with a directness and honesty that cut through. Here was the Gospel not in theory, but in testimony, spoken in a voice peers could hear and, more importantly, believe. Their witness to the transforming grace of God at work in young lives left a visible impression on the room.

Ultimately, it was the Calling Ceremony that gave the day its most sacred heartbeat. One by one, students were presented their ‘Into Adulthood’ badges by their PCA – a simple act, and yet a profound one. To be called is to be known. To step forward is to choose. In this Ceremony, students were invited to make a commitment: to grow with Christ into the fullness of who they are called to be. The celebration of Mass framed the day in the Eucharist, grounding every activity, conversation and moment of self-discovery in something larger than themselves.

The Year 9 Pastoral Care Retreat Day is more than a single event on the calendar. It is a threshold – and this year, our students crossed it with open hearts and willing steps.
